Fly Beat Music tracks free untill 2011

I’m not going to say this year has gone by faster than normal, because I say that every year. Maybe it’s got something to do with getting older and our perception of time… anyway, without getting too deep. Happy new year everyone! 2010 was a great year for us even though I’ve had extra pressure on with normal life, a new day job and a beautiful baby boy (‘sup Théo?!!) we’ve had exceptional output, hard work from our producers, and rather unimaginable support from some big guns! Not bad for a little label that is constantly remarked on for going against the grain.

Twenty Eleven is set to be pretty mega too! The producers and I have been discussing a pretty exciting (and secretive, for now) concept, we welcome the addition of Vice Deviants to the rooster, and you can expect the same level of trashy artwork and bad taste video’s. Not forgetting of course even more free sh!t for the blog.

So of course what way to end the year than to go out with a big bang!? Because we’re awesome (I spend way too much time on the app store), I’ve made all our tracks on Soundcloud (with the exception of our latest K.GoL release) available to download until 2011. Well, until I wake up at least.

Have a great time tonight, and make sure you welcome in the New Year in style!

DJ Jonny Blaze – Pray My Pain Away (Video)

Christianity and spirituality have played a major role in the music that stems from African American culture. You need only look towards the Reverend Al Green and RUN DMC to see how wide spread the faith goes. If god is up there listening down, then he is sure to find most favour with these roots, and I’m sure his latest favourite artist would surely be the self proposed Warrior for God, DJ Jonny Blaze. Check out his new video for Pray My Pain Away. Even if you aren’t religious this is sure to bring some positivity when life throws its problems at you. And I’m pretty certain that like The Reverend himself, Jonny’s main aim is to spread a bit of love and happiness.

Shell Game Out Now (+ Free Remix)

K.GoL has been causing quite a stir with his biggest release to date. Ghetto bass meets pounding beats and erratic breaks in this infectious Bmore inspired house track. Flore fixes up a remix which is already being tipped in the press as “future samba”. And DJ Enfusion brings the UK Junglist flavour to his old skool remix. Which incidentally we’ve made available for blogging in a link below, along with the hack up music video taken from the Jap splat classic, Tokyo Gore Police.

Shell Game video

Shell Game is running at full steam with a host of big names hyping the original mix and remixes, including DJ Zinc, Laurent Garnier, Plump DJ’s, Tim Healey, Daniel Haaksman, Stereo MC’s, Pete Jordan and Aquasky. There’s also a heap of haters, haha, but that’s cool. Like Flore said on her blog “All this contradiction for me is definitly a good sign. It means we did something different.”. Too right!

As always, I’ve hacked up a mad film to go with the tune. This time my favourite Jap Splat film, Tokyo Gore Police, get’s a good going over.

Get Some Fly in Yo’ Soup! – SometimesPrawn

I know, I promised to keep this up to date and it’s only the second recipe this year! However, it’s a good one as well as being quick, simple and a touch exotic. Basically it was a “what’s in the fridge” meal from tonight, and I thought I’d share it as it was yum.

Ingredients:

2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 courgettes, diced small
200g small prawns
Half a lemon, squeezed
A good dollop of crème fraiche
A decent sized bunch of curly parsley, chopped

Slice the garlic thinly and soften over a low heat in some olive oil. Pour out the garlic, but keep the oil and turn it up. Season and then stir fry the courgettes, and then chuck in the prawns when the courgettes are caramalised a bit. Finish off by putting the garlic back in, then the lemon juice, followed by the crème fraiche, parsley and seasoning. Et voila, proper yum in your tum.
